Let’s be honest. 2016 has been a little bumpy. We’ve seen the passing of musical legends, had beloved gorillas taken too soon, and faced a presidential election pulled straight from a South Park storyboard. I can think of no better way to welcome a fresh start than by raging away the final hours of 2016 at one of these ten New Year’s Eve events:
The Midwest’s biggest New Year’s Eve festival once again returns to the city of Chicago. The two-day event will see names like Flume, Zeds Dead, Gucci Mane, Tchami, and Dillon Francis tear apart the 580,000 square foot warehouse-style venue. With Zeds Dead bringing in the new year, attendees bones will surely be rattling when the clock strikes twelve.
One of the most unique and highly regarded events is Bassnectar’s NYE 360° show in Birmingham, Alabama. The show takes place in a 20,000 person stadium connected to a hotel that is filled with nothing but bassheads. Bassnectar is known for his jaw-dropping production, so one can only imagine it expanded to fill an entire stadium. With Gramatik, Joker, and The Librarian providing support, this is sure to be one the most epic events of the year.
Year after year, Decadence has proved to be one of the largest New Years festivals in America. Denver hosts the main show, with a slightly smaller though still impressive edition taking place in Chandler, Arizona.
The Denver lineup is bursting at the seams with headline level talent. Bassnectar, Eric Prydz, The Chainsmokers, Flume, GRiZ, Tiesto, RL Grime b2b Baauer, Zeds Dead, and more are set to perform. Arizona will also draw The Chainsmokers, as well as deadmau5, Jauz, Porter Robinson, Zedd, and Zomboy among others. Both cities are in for two wild nights full of world-class talent.
Lights All Night boasts one of the most stacked lineups in the New Years festival game. Dallas will host Above & Beyond, deadmau5, RL Grime, Tchami, A$AP Ferg, 12th Planet, Rezz, and many more across a talent-packed two days. LAN always lives up to its name, delivering face-melting production every year.
Those looking to get heavy on the west coast will want to check out Omfg! NYE in San Diego. The festival will see acts like DJ Snake, Jauz, Adventure Club, Slander, and Bro Safari throw down over the course of three days. With Jauz closing it out, who wouldn’t want to ring in the new year with the #sharksquad?
If you’ve ever wanted to attend a festival in a winter wonderland, Snowglobe is for you. Taking place in South Lake Tahoe, California, the grounds are typically covered in snow. Attendees will be getting down to to Major Lazer, Odesza, The Chainsmokers, Flume, RL Grime, Rufus du Sol, and many more, all while bundled up in winter coats. If you’re tired of the blistering heat find at most summer festivals, be sure to chill out at Snowglobe as we slide into 2017.
Taking place at The Rave in Milwaukee, this one is for the bassheads. Wisconsin will be invaded by dubstep kingpins Datsik, Snails, and Borgore. Seeing as all three of the dub-bosses are currently obliterating cities on the Safe in Sound festival tour, they are sure to bring their A-game to the New Years celebration.
For those looking for a more finely curated experience, Minimal Effort showcases the cutting-edge of electronic music. The one-day event will bring a roster of legendary techno and house talent to the LA Center Studios in downtown Los Angeles. Simian Mobile Disco, Amtrac, Audion, The Desert Hearts Crew and many other underground heroes will spin at what is sure to be a phenomenal party.
Pretty Lights will close out 2016 in New Orleans at the Mardi Gras World Ballroom with his live band. The show is set for December 30th and 31st and is sure to be breathtaking. If you have not yet seen the jaw-dropping production that is a Pretty Lights show, do yourself a favor and bring in the New Year with the king of all things laser.
Looking for something outside the realm of electronic dance music? Sound Tribe is the answer. The beloved jamtronic band will be performing three nights at the Fillmore Auditorium. Seeing as the band just celebrated their 20th show at Red Rocks this year, they are sure to put on an incredible show in Denver as 2016 comes to a close.
What will your New Years resolution be?
