Earlier today, Bassnectar finally revealed to Billboard the location of his two-night “secret” rave next month in Atlanta, GA. For months he has been saying that it was his chance to bring his music “back to its roots” similar to the types of excurions his friends would go on in search of the next underground rave. Now it has been revealed: 279 Andrew Young International Blvd. Although the space itself is minimal at best, its the idea surrounding that has such a buzz.

“I had no idea where it was or what it was going to be like,” he said. “A kid from school found the directions last minute… it was like a treasure hunt. I drove there in a car packed with friends, and we parked on the street outside. When we got out of the car, you could hear the bass booming in the distance. We just followed the bass until we found ourselves at the doorway to a building.”

With only a 10,000 capacity, tickets sold out in minutes after release.   This special show will be doing things different with two areas inside: The Haven and the Main Arena.

The Haven will be a nod to old school rooms “side rooms” that will have pillows, ambient music and friendly characters passing out juice and tea.

The Main Arena will be unlike any other set up fans have seen from Bassnectar.  While he will be bringing the highest quality sound system, lights, and lasers,  the point of the event will not be on him  on stage.  He will be creating the warehouse vibe from the ’90s when the DJ was just “there” to provide background, not to be main attraction where all focus is directed.

“I never just posted up and stared at the DJs,” he says, “nobody did. The DJ was just some friendly person who got to create the soundtrack for the experience, and the experience went a lot deeper than just the music.”

It is evident that fans in the Southeast are in for an underground treat this September. Feeling sad your missing out?  Don’t worry, Bassnectar is always looking for a new creative outlet that could be coming to your city in the future.

Follow up on the madness that will follow with this event on, you guessed it, Life Backstage.
