Cash Cash and Fitz (of Fitz and the Tantrums) joined forces on their new single “Broken Drum”. The track, off Cash Cash’s upcoming album Blood, Sweat & 3 Years combines  sounds of progressive house with some soul-influenced indie pop.

This combination of genres can be heard throughout the song, but is especially prevalent during the saxophone heavy chorus. It’s an unexpected collaboration that slow burns through one’s speakers.

Though the music is upbeat and fairly bright, the lyrics seem to describe a depressing love story. “Broken Drum” tells the tail of Fitz longing for someone who used to be a larger part of his life, comparing different aspects of his relationship to various musical terms.

With Fitz and his band just releasing their new album, Fitz and the Tantrums, on June 10 and Cash Cash’s album to debut on June 24, it appears both have a big summer ahead of them.
