Electric Forest: A festival within the confines of a lush, tree-lined Rothbury, Michigan. It’s a place of magic, love and beauty; a forest filled with synergy and positive vibes for days.

There is no simple way to describe the world inside Sherwood Forest. Walking through the arch entrance is like stepping into a vast escape from all reality. As a forest virgin, I naively doubted it could be as cool as everyone says it is. A real life version of Narnia? There was no way… but then I saw it all. No flash from a camera does the forest enough justice and, following the four-day long extravaganza, I still am having a hard time putting the words together.

“Somehow with the spirits of the forest, I would eventually reconnect with my friends but as I became lost I actually realized…I was found.”

Imagine the largest lot of land you have ever stepped foot on and multiply that by ten! That’s how big this venue was and every corner turned was a stage. Experiencing a live Alina Baraz performance at the Jubliee Stage was not out of the realm of possibility, nor was seeing a stilt walker high above me. Between the built in multi-colored lights and the wide pathway to the silent disco, it was impossible for me not to wonder off from my friends.

Unfortunately we didn’t get the memo about the group totem poles –still laughing at the naked Donald Trump one- so it was extremely difficult for me to find my way back. Somehow with the spirits of the forest, I would eventually reconnect with my friends but as I became lost I actually realized…I was found. My first Electric Forest experience is something I will never forget. It was an eye opener, heart warmer and soul rejuvenator.
