“What’s up, MTV? I’m (effortless sexy celebrity); welcome to my oversized party mansion where all the magic happens!” This is one of the most classic lines of any show to have appeared on the pop culture channel over the last 10 years.
I moved into a new house last week and took my friends on a personal Snapchat video tour (sans fancy cars and add lots more Chinese take-out to my fridge). Little did I know that I was giving my friends a sneak peek of what will be making its return via Snapchat in June with the iconic MTV Cribs.
MTV brought iconic episodes of celebrities’ pads to cable TV include wild and well-talked about moments like Mariah Carey taking a bubble bath in a towel in her crystal chandelier-adorned bathroom (insert bug-eyed, judgmental emoji here)…and for that, I am thankful.
When I heard MTV Cribs was bringing back my beloved show, I was thrilled. As a fellow 20-something with a shorter attention span than I’m even willing to admit, the popular short skit social media app makes for the perfect platform. Celebs will still take viewers on a tour of their homes, but we can only expect a quick look instead of a thorough 30-minute tour. Plus no commercial breaks!
The webisodes will be part of MTV’s Discover channel of Snapchat, updated once a week. Users can look forward to tours of Mac Miller, Austin Mahone, and Travis Mills’ cribs at the time of its launch. For the wishful watcher, Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 are two DJs known for their pricey pads…which of these tickles your finger tapping fancy?
