What if I told you, that you could go to a music festival featuring Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer, and Metallica for free?! On September 24, NYC’s Central Park will be hosting all of these artists and more for Global Citizen Music Festival. For their fifth annual festival they will be giving away a whopping 48,000 tickets. But you might be asking yourself, what’s the catch?
Tickets are won in massive drawings throughout the months leading up to the concert. To enter to win a ticket, you must become an activist. Global Citizen is a direct advocate for The Global Poverty Project, which aims to end extreme cases of poverty. As a result, this music festival ticket drawing uniquely is built upon a point system.
Fans of the pursuit of tickets must earn 30 points to enter each ticket drawing. This can be done so by following Global Citizens’ instructions on their webpage to use twitter, Instagram, and facebook to advocate for specific petitions, organizations, country dilemmas, etc. This in turn makes you a “Global Citizen”.So, what have the outcomes been? For four years, countries around the world have been positively affected by Global Citizens. From their use of technology and social media savviness, they were able to impact global water and sanitation, education, health, food and hunger, girls and women, finance and innovation, and the environment. Here are just some of their achievements:
“Since 2011, global citizens have helped secure $800 million combined from governments – including Canada, UK, Australia, and US – to eradicate polio by the end of the decade.”
“At Global Citizen Festival 2014, H&M Conscious Foundation, Global Manager, Helena Thybell announced a commitment of $9.3 million to WaterAid set to affect 250,000 lives for the better.”
“In 2015, the UK committed to ensure 6.5 million additional girls globally receive education over the next 5 years.”
This is an awesome way to get involved with our world… and attend a dope concert. For more information visit: www.globalcitizen.org
