Young Thug’s latest mixtape “Slime Season 3” was cast upon the masses at midnight, previously hinted at with a blatant attempt to buck the status quo. The release date, in Young Thug fashion, was scribbled atop a coffin that made its way through SXSW in a funeral procession.
“Slime Season 3” is a threequel to his previous two mixtapes, which received high acclaim and heavy doses of London On The Track. Young Thug runs a tag team with London, a heavily heard-of producer from Atlanta, with only one other guest appearance (from Yak Gotti on “Slime Shit”).
The eight-track album, released on 300 Entertainment, begins with “With Them”, a punctuated first impression with an authoritative tone and quick, short bursts of lyrics that pack a punch. SS3 can be streamed through Spotify or purchased on iTunes here.
Both “Digits” and “Problem” feature the 24-year-old’s renowned sizzurp sound, which features lyrics that glide over trap beats and often trail off without completion until an always addictive, hardly predictable hook comes in. Young Thug’s style is one supported by Kayne West, who tweeted out props to the rapper saying:
“Young Thug is super inspiring to me. Amazing artist!!!”
Whether it’s his uniquely ambiguous point-of-view or a production value that hits and sticks, Young Thug and his latest mixtape are simply slimy, in the complementary sense of the word. “Slime Season 3” oozes of fluid thug prose and even inserts an occasional thought of romance on “Worth It”, shown below from his YouTube video release:
